My name is Claire, and I have been lactose-intolerant for almost two years, which hasn’t been very easy at times.
I absolutely love food, especially cheese, chocolate, cakes and all things dairy, so cutting this out was difficult and I had to find alternatives to meet my cravings. Many times I’d be out shopping and want to stop for a bit of lunch or a snack, only to find it really hard to find anywhere that will cater for lactose/diary-free foods. So I end up in a big no-food-mood and have a meltdown in the middle of the shopping centre, which isn’t great (and especially dangerous for anyone with me!).
Over the past year-and-a-bit, I’ve picked up ways of adapting recipes, as well as discovered restaurants, cafes and supermarket products which are lactose-free, all of which are making my food meltdowns a little less frequent! So I thought it would be useful to share my lactose-free discoveries and inventions with others who may also be struggling to meet their dairy-free cravings.
With a bit of help from my boyfriend and his dad (credit for the name), I’ve developed Udder Alternatives: a blog sharing my recipe ideas, advice on eating out, my best supermarket picks and a guide to being lactose-intolerant whilst travelling.
I hope you find it useful! And if you have any tips as well, I’d love to hear them.
